When you make a donation to the Patricia Mackey Patient and Family-Centred Care Educational Fund at North York General, the Mackey family will personally match your gift, dollar-for-dollar up to $70,000. Your gift will have double the impact on patient experiences at NYGH. Please give today, make a difference and help NYGH go beyond care.
Please join us in supporting the Patricia Mackey Patient- and Family-Centred Care Educational Award—one of the few awards in Canada that emphasize the importance of advancing this mission. The award supports North York General’s care providers in advancing and sharing their knowledge about patient- and family-centred care (PFCC). With your generosity, we will raise enough money to continue to provide annual grants to care providers who wish to pursue professional development relating to patient- and family-centred care.
Patient- and family-centred care is rooted in the philosophy that the best care is possible only when staff and physicians collaborate with patients and their families, so that they can effectively respond to their unique needs. It is based upon the four principles of respect and dignity, information sharing, participation, and collaboration.
On behalf of the hospital, foundation and the Mackey family, a sincere congratulations to this year’s recipients:
- Zahra Ismail, Clinical Team Manager, 8 West - Respiratory Portfolio
- Lesley Lander, Unit Secretary, 4 West - Surgical Program, Orthopaedics
- Leela Prasaud, Patient and Family Advisor and Spiritual and Religious Care Visitor
- Dr. Mikael-Lavigne - Paediatrician
The Mackey family has been so moved by the overwhelming response from our community in support of advancing patient- and family-centred care at NYGH that they are generously matching every gift to Pat’s fund, dollar-for-dollar, up to $70,000. This means that every dollar contributed will double in value.
The Patricia Mackey Patient- and Family-Centred Care Educational Award was lovingly established by Pat Mackey’s family and friends—a fitting tribute to a woman who dedicated so much of herself to thinking of others—following her passing in February 2014 from breast cancer.
As a care provider to loved ones, and as a patient herself, Pat grew passionate about enhancing the hospital experience for patients and their families. In 2012, Pat brought her enthusiasm and sincerity to the volunteer role of Patient and Family Advisor on the NYGH Patient and Family Advisory Council as an inaugural member. She was delighted to be interviewed by the North York Mirror in February 2013 and shared her excitement about the opportunity to be involved with the hospital.
Months later, while receiving treatment through the Freeman Centre for the Advancement of Palliative Care, Pat spoke movingly, about her experience in a special video, in the hope of bringing comfort to families in similar circumstances.
With your support for the Patricia Mackey Patient and Family-Centred Care Educational Fund, you can help ensure that North York General continues to deliver the highest quality care to patients and families.
Your gift will have a direct impact on patient experiences. Thank you for helping us Go Beyond Care at NYGH and in our community.
With our deepest gratitude,
The Mackey Family
