History

Don OliverTwenty-six years, a great cause, and a special story.

It began in 1990 when Don Oliver, then a member of the Foundation Board of Governors and President of the Donalda Club Board of Directors, learned that his son was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease. Seeing firsthand the quality of care his son had received throughout his treatment at North York General, Mr. Oliver wanted to do something to show his gratitude.

The Donalda Club team was enthusiastic about becoming involved, and an opportunity arose to celebrate the Club's golf pro, Bob Ure, who was about to retire. The Donalda Club wanted to do something that would have lasting impact, and the Bob Ure Endowment Fund to benefit North York General was born. The original goal of raising $100,000 through the Bob Ure Endowment Fund for our Cancer and Palliative Care Program was quickly met and has since grown into the Donalda Club Endowment Fund.

It has been more than two decades since the Donalda Club brought to life their idea to get involved with their community hospital and there is much to celebrate.

In the last 25 years of play, the North York Masters Golf Tournament has raised over $4.8 million.
